New York, NY; (April 29, 2016) â The Northeast Academy will be conducting its annual USA Rugby National Tracking Camp (NTC) and Combine on the weekend of June 11th, 2016. Hospitality for the very full weekend of events comes courtesy of the Saratoga Rugby Club, whose nationally renowned rugby grounds are quickly becoming one of the premier training and tournament destinations in all of North America.
The NTC event is an open tryout for ambitious rugby athletes to become a part of the Northeastâs official player pathway in the USA Rugby High Performance Development system. As such, there will be USA Rugby coaches and selection committee members on hand, along with scouts and coaches from PRO Rugby North America, the Northeast Academy itself and the Empire Geographic Union Select Side, all of whom are actively scouting for talent to join their respective high performance pipeline structures.
Registration for the event is open to men and women from any division of High School, College and adult Senior division competitions.
The combine/tryout portion of the event will kick-off early on Saturday morning, June 11th and run deep into the afternoon. Later that evening, a coachesâ round table will take place for any and all regional coaches and/or officers to discuss and work on continuing the upward momentum of USA and Northeast regional rugby development.
Sunday, June 12th will then see the first annual Empire Cup competition. The Empire Cup will be a one day tournament, in which select representative sides from each of the four D2 and D3 regions of the Empire GU (Upstate New York, New Jersey, New York City and Southern Connecticut) will compete against each other for EGU bragging rights and, more importantly, as a selection vehicle for the singularEmpire GU Select Side that will compete later in the summer at the annual Can-Am International at Saranac Lake against other regional union select sides, such as Capital Region, Eastern Penn and New England Rugby Football Union.
There will quite certainly be many important scouts and coaches still in attendance for the weekend-capping Empire Cup event. The entire June 11th weekend presents an extraordinary variety of opportunities for players who can perform well in the combine and/or in the Empire Cup competition.
