New England and Empire GUs Announce Agreement on CR3 Playoffs
The MOA, signed by NERFU President Neil Foley and Empire President Michael Crafton, applies to the Senior Men's Division II and III and Senior Women's Division I and II playoff matches. It also stipulates that all matches be held in one of the two Capital Region cities, or in an alternate location within a reasonable distance if field availability becomes an issue.
The MOA specifies these matches must take place no later than two weeks prior to the USA Rugby National Championship round of eight, and that both unions will cover the hosting costs such as field or equipment rental, permit and referee fees.
When asked about the MOA finally being adopted by both GUs, Foley had this to say: "This is a great opportunity for us and Empire to bury the hatchet and start a new relationship... Clubs will now know as soon as they qualify for the playoffs where the match is and when it is. In addition, we get to have another showcase event for rugby in the Northeast as all of the best teams will be in the same area playing matches against one another.â
You can access a copy of the MOA on the NERFU documents page. Questions or feedback should be directed to NERFU Secretary Jeff Sperling.
