Northeast ODA Re-brands and Launches Women's Academy

May 20, 2015

As part of a re-branding strategy, the Northeast Olympic Development Academy (ODA) will in future be known simply as the Northeast Academy. As one of four officially sanctioned USA National Development Academies, the Northeast Academy, in conjunction with USA Rugby, held a Regional Training Camp last Sunday at Baker Field in New York.

Another exciting development will see the launch this summer of the Northeast Women’s Academy, which is intended to replicate and mirror the model and success of the Men's program. In New England, the program will be overseen by John McGeachy, a former Eagle in both 7’s and 15’s and a current coach with the Northeast Men in charge, assisted by Kelly Seary of Beantown and Harvard fame. In the New York area it will be Gary Heavner and Kate Daley of Old Blue, and Rosalie McGowan and Koma Gandy-Fischbein of the New York Rugby Club.

“We are looking forward to extending the program and giving top female athletes in the area the same opportunities as the men have had, and I believe we have assembled a solid leadership group to get the ball rolling”, said McGeachy.  “I also want to recognize the support given by the New England Union in particular in helping drive this opportunity in our area.”
