Congratulations goes out Salem State's Mens Rugby Club as they defeated Canisius College 62-12 at the National Small College Rugby Organizations (NSCRO) Northeast Challenge Cup Qualifier yesterday. Salem State is now headed to Mount St. Mary’s (Emmitsburgh, MD) on December 5th to take part in the Northeast Championships.

The other two NERFU college clubs in the play-off hunt this weekend both suffered devastating last minute losses. In the women’s NSCRO Northeast Regionals the University of New England (UNE) lost in overtime to the University of New Haven, 29-22. The University of Maine- Orono (UMO) men also suffered a similar fate against Plattsburgh State in a NSCRO Champions Cup Qualifier. The U of Maine men had fallen behind 14-0 early but then battled back over the course of the match to take a 17-14 lead, unfortunately Plattsburgh scored again as time expired to win 19-17.

We are proud of how UNE and UMO battled to the end and never gave up and we congratulate both clubs on their seasons and play-off runs. We also wish Salem State the best of luck in the next round of play-offs.

A recap of the NERFU men’s play-offs can be found in the latest NERFU newsletter.
A recap of the Women’s NERFU Championships was in this earlier newsletter.
